Ecological steps forward
Look, listen and admire.
These three words perfectly encapsulate the new table and chair. The facts speak for themselves. Less CO2 emissions and less wood waste. More table sizes from 140 cm S to 390 cm XXL. The story about the ins & outs of the design is an eye-opener. Mobitec is taking ecological steps forward in the right direction.
The Altéra table very much lives up to its Latin name: it is indeed different, fluid. The adaptive design begins with a compact size of 90 x 140 cm, and ends with 100 x 220 cm with 3 extension leaves (1 x 70 cm and 2 x 49 cm) so almost 390 cm long. Such a wide range of (flexible) measurements means that the table is universally applicable.
Now we come to the ecological dimensions. To begin with, the tabletop is constructed from three layers (‘three-layer top’). For the top layer, premium wood has been used, without natural irregularities. For the invisible in-between and base layer, the wood does not need to be aesthetically perfect. The result: a saving of raw materials, as there is less wood waste. An additional advantage is the improved dimensional stability of the tabletop.
What’s more, the slim, metal extension mechanism is no longer lacquered extra black, but simply galvanised – produced entirely locally in Germany. Imagine the way things used to be done: galvanising in Germany, lacquering outside Europe (a complex and harmful chemical process), back to Germany for the montage. The elimination of the lacquering and long-distance transport means a huge ecological improvement. In addition, this finish is also more durable in the sense of being more wear-resistant. All in all, Mobitec is making a considerable ecological gain with Altéra.
The new Léi chair tells an equally interesting story. For the interior, foam.hybrid eNdura foam has been used: made from 30% renewable materials, with a lower density and lighter weight. This already means a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions! The chair is delivered flat-packed, and the packaging has been ecologically optimised. As a result, the CO2 emissions from logistics have also been halved!
In short, every little ecological step forward helps!
