Low-tech lounging
Home starts on the sofa. But what makes a sofa ‘the one and only’ sofa?
Uncomplicated lounging comfort. Upholstery and configuration take precedence over design. Lines are no longer straight; angles are more than perpendicular. The trend is moving towards soft and basic relaxation. ‘Loungeability’ is the new buzzword.
Gerlin is laser-focused on this. Relaxation pure and simple. A low-tech sofa that is delightful to sit on, lie in and touch. Comfort is all about softness. Highly strokable fabrics like the archetypical teddy, a corduroy with exaggerated ridges, a light bouclé or a 3D chenille. You just want to stroke them and are constantly drawn back to them. Next up: super soft fillings for the sofa. The foams are becoming softer, and at the same time have a higher density. This way the sofa retains its resilience. The Dacron wadding now more closely resembles a blanket than a covering layer. A bold, tufted upholstery or loose cushions on the sofa add to the soft experience.
The same is true of soft, organic shapes. These are widely embraced in the market, also by a more conventional audience. That’s why Gerlin has included organic gradations in its models and modules. You can opt for anything from an organic accent to a full-blown organic design and arrangement. The corner module can already make a difference: 90° or 110°? A rounded end element on one or both sides of the sofa combination? The configurations with the modules weigh heavily in the purchasing decision.
That’s why the back and armrests in the Bright model are at the same height. This allows you to use and group the modules more freely. But how do you prevent a tangle of legs? With Plexiglas, you look straight through them. This gives a calmer vibe.
