Mythical proportions

It all depends on how you look at it: do you see a terrifying monster or the sweetest teddy bear?

Forget the fantasy films, BigFoot and Yeti give a dazzling furniture show. The indoor scenario moves straight to outdoors ─ with just a few material adjustments. The after-party becomes an intimate, candlelit nocturne.

According to American mythology, BigFoot is a giant, humanlike, hairy creature. In films he is often portrayed as a terrifying monster. In Brussels his softer side is emphasised: BigFoot is Frederik Delbart’s maiden design for PassePartout. Both huge and soft, the model certainly has an impact. Design and comfort go hand in hand. The biggest challenge: the combination of such oversized cushions with such a streamlined seat. The back and the seat are two separate entities that merge fully to form a harmonious whole. The round proportions seem self-evident – until you explore them down to the finest details. Tip: follow the curves and the seams. The cherry on the cake: the pointed corners of the cushions, which stand upright like pointed ears. This looks so sweet, so adorable! What ultimately matters most, of course, is the comfort. You sit in it, but do not sink into it. The BigFoot ensures that your back is well supported.

There’s a similar myth doing the rounds about the Yeti, the Afghan snowman from the Himalayas. Frederik Delbart has also reworked and transformed his image into a model, the Yeti armchair. The feet are clamped around the seat: a nod to the soft claws of the snowman. They hold you carefully, with retracted nails.

From the rugged mountains to the garden and terrace: PassePartout’s outdoor range. OK, the boundary between indoors and outdoors is blurring. But with the Dali and Salvador models, this boundary has totally disappeared. PassePartout has cloned two popular interior pieces: Saki and Mogador are perfect replicas. Only the fabric, the foam and the shell construction have been exchanged for outdoor-proof characteristics. Dali and Salvador are fully upholstered sofas – for outdoors. What is that exactly? How is it possible? At first sight, this can seem confusing. But it turns out to be true: this is an outdoor sofa.

All these new things deserve to be celebrated. On Tuesday evening, true to tradition, this time in an intimate candlelit setting. (Free entry upon registration.)
