NON PLUS ULTRA

There’s high-end — and highest-end, in this case Schramm Home of Sleep.

It’s a dream of a collection, in terms of both sleeping comfort and styling. And now it can be admired in Brussels for the first time. The focal point is the design of the beds: a symbiosis of ‘stile italiano’ and ‘deutsche Gründlichkeit’. Schramm appeals to both specialist bedding companies and interior architects. Be surprised by the many possibilities it offers.

The technical details of the sleeping systems require no further explanation, but the modelling and styling of the beds certainly does. Schramm has drawn inspiration from the latest Italian design trends: for the bed, organic shapes and a low, enclosed frame; and for the fabrics finer bouclés, classic corduroys, and a richer palette of colours.

Schramm presents widely divergent interpretations of the organic design trend. Levina is all about elegant curves, with subtly rounded panels for the headboard and bed surround. Elysia is the more sculpted version, featuring convex lines, gently swelling surfaces and corners. Its feminine name is a nod to the modelling. Lysander is the opposite: solid, powerful and protective. The headboard rises up behind the bed like a protective fortress wall. Seams are accentuated with finely stitched leather piping: an example of true craftsmanship. Lysander seems to have been made to stand freely in the space.

The Levina model could be described as the style icon. The design is both trendy and accessible, comprehensible. You might describe it as mutedly organic. This bed would fit perfectly in a specialist bedding store, with the eye-catching red styling. In practise, customers are likely to opt for a different finish.

BYOF

You’d expect Van Schramm to offer more than the standard collection of fabrics, despite its impressive scope.

BYOF (Bring Your Own Fabric) is the perfect opportunity for interior architects and project designers in the hospitality sector. They can coordinate the overall upholstery of a space: the bed, the chair, pouffe, (sofa) bed. So is this an option that is often embraced? You bet it is! More than 25% of the beds are upholstered with fabrics supplied by the client. A simple task for the workshop — even with patterned fabrics. An additional advantage is that the upholstery consists of loose covers, attached with Velcro, so these can be changed at will. The base is solid, and will stay that way, so can be used for many years.

As we said: there’s high-end and highest-end.
