SAVOIR VIVRE, SAVOIR SOMMEILLER
The company is lending its name to a new high-end brand collection.
There used to be three brands under the ‘Le Sommeil Français’ umbrella: Biotex, Techlilat and Synchroflex. Last year, Technilat reached the forty-year milestone. This anniversary was marked by the debut of the fourth brand ‘Le Sommeil Francais’: superior sleeping comfort, interior styling and bed linen. Brussels is the first time that the firm is exhibiting outside France.
So why create a different brand name? ‘Le Sommeil Français’ perfectly captures the essence of the premium collection. The interweaving with French savoir vivre and luxury; and the alliance between haute couture, cutting-edge technology and the ultimate in comfort. The collection exudes ‘savoir-faire’ — and ‘savoir-sommeiller’. ‘Le Sommeil Français’ transforms the bedroom into an oasis of wellbeing, an all-encompassing experience. The brand kicks off with three pocket spring mattresses, slatted bases, two headboards with two exclusive fabric collections, and two bed linen series. Every creation is a harmonious blend of traditional values and modern innovations.
The Boétie and Rêveries headboards bring the cross-pollination between the past and the present into sharp focus: a minimalist framework filled with a classical theme. The exclusive fabric collections have been developed in collaboration with Maison Thévenon: a French family firm (1908), renowned for its exceptional interior fabrics (furniture, curtains). The Ludivine collection is a legendary ‘toile de Jouy’ in traditional light blue and rust brown. Toile de Jouy? This fabric dates back to the 18th century. Back then it was printed with idyllic tableaux of rural life or mythological scenes; now for ‘Le Sommeil Français’ it features classic and floral designs inspired by the cultural patrimony. By contrast, the Pondichéry collection is more exuberant: a decorative fabric in flamboyant colours. This has been designed by Studio Inkfabrik, self-described as the ‘Parisian duo from Berlin’.
The matching bed linen exudes out-and-out luxury: two-tone duvet covers and pillowcases in percale or satin. The colour palette is somewhat understated, featuring natural tones such as ochre/amber, steel/slate, sage/olive. The headboards and bed linen bear the gold signature of ‘Le Sommeil Français’: the golden emblem, the golden piping.
Its first participation in Brussels by Night is a test case for the brand. How will ‘Le Sommeil Français’ be received by sleep specialists and interior architects? There’s a strong possibility that Brussels will prove to be the springboard to its big breakthrough outside France.
