ONE PARTICULAR CHAIR
‘Kluskens — furniture creations’ is one of a kind.
That single tagline expresses exactly what the furniture maker stands for: masterful craftsmanship, a passion for oak, timeless design, and future classics. And let’s not forget: all from the Netherlands. Every year afresh, impact guaranteed: with the stand in Brussels, with the new creations. Tables? Cabinets? The upcoming fair is all about one particular chair — which fits with all tables.
This year it will be different. No new table, no new cabinet, but one particular chair. Kluskens and chairs? That is a leap back in time, back to the seventies! The idea comes from Claudio di Palma, an Amsterdam-based, Italian designer. (He previously designed the Atelier coffee tables.) He pointed out the missing link in the collection. ‘A single chair is already the ultimate challenge for a designer.’
So there you have it: the Unica! There’s no other way: crafted by Kluskens, so 100% solid oak. However you look at it — from the front, the back, the side, or underneath: the Unica invites you to discover, to admire.
The basic principles of the design? That one, fluid contour line that delineates the chair as an elegant, soft silhouette. Retaining the timeless character of a traditional, solid wood chair — simple — and yet with its own personality. Respecting and harnessing Kluskens’ traditional craftsmanship. Look at the construction of the frame: just two joints between the back uprights and the front of the chair. Seriously, fewer would be downright impossible. Finding the balance between the aesthetic and ergonomic proportions. Sit down for a moment: it has a comfortable, deep seat. And finally, stimulating the interaction between the chair and the user in the space. Look at the backrest: it is a call-to-action, inviting you to sit down, but also to move the chair. Lift it up for a second: it’s really light!
The most normal thing in the world in fact: the Unica is available in all (standard) colours. The natural oak is a different story: offering the freedom to stain or paint it yourself.
Soon in Brussels, the Unica will be the centre of attention: that one chair – that fits with all tables, in private and public spaces. No need to say more.
