Crest means 100% designed in Belgium & handmade in Portugal. The latest collection Hana is named after the Japanese word for blossom. The floral symbolism reflects the essence of the collection.
Blossom is the metaphor for organic design. Who would have thought it? Crest’s signature has always been purist minimalist with sleek lines and a perfect symmetry. With Hana, the cabinets end with a curved line. Would you describe this shape as softly geometric or organic? The fact is that behind the curved door you’ll find a fully-fledged storage space.
Blossom is also a metaphor for the flourishing furniture craftsmanship in the Porto region. Here, furniture-making thrives among old and young alike, so is not threatened with extinction. Veneering comes naturally to them. You notice that in every piece of furniture. On the fronts, the patterns of the woodgrain continue in perfect alignment, despite the horizontal interruption for the integrated handle. The natural pattern seems precisely calculated, but it has been applied with the eye of a master carpenter.
The tabletops have been veneered in a herringbone pattern – in varying directions. The grain does not lie perfectly straight in the middle, but runs off asymmetrically via a curved line. This is exceptional. The conical legs are as slim as possible – whilst retaining their stability.
Crest without a fusion of materials is unthinkable. In the case of Hana, you can combine the oak and walnut veneer with metal for the support, and with travertine and ceramic for the tabletops.
Crest is synonymous with master craftsmanship. Every piece of furniture has been created with an eye for perfection and the customer. The bar is getting higher and higher.
